Letters, 1836-1850.

Transcripts of four letters written to his mother in Maine. Two, dated Nov. 1836 and July 24, 1837, report conditions in Kirtland Ohio. One dated Aug. 7, 1846 tells of the commissioning of the Mormon Battalion, of which Butterfield was a member. The last, dated Sep. 20, 1850 from Salt Lake City, reports family activity in Utah and his testimony of Joseph Smith as a prophet.
